Making An “Authentic Angel” Ornament – Blogmas 2020 – Day 4

A photo of a gold ball, made of two rings of gold pipe cleaners. Both rings are covered in black and white googly eyes. The ball is sitting on top of a fake Christmas tree. Against the wall behind the ball is a shadow cast by Christmas lights.

So in the Bible, angels are described in a wide variety of ways. One description is included in the King James translation of Ezekiel:

Ezekiel 1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.

Ezekiel 1:18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

I saw someone on Twitter post a photo of their diy angel tree topper. It was a gold ball, covered in beautiful, realistic eyes. I loved the idea and wanted to make my own.

A photo of a black cat with a white nose and mouth. Laying on the photographer’s lap, looking back over her shoulder at a small clear plastic bag, full of plastic black and white googly eyes.

My first attempt stayed pretty close to the version I’d seen on Twitter.

But it didn’t look like the illustrations I’d seen that were based on the descriptions in the Bible. So I wanted to try again.

I was much happier with this version, and decided to put it on top of the small Christmas tree we have next to the television in our room.
